Greenscapes VA handles tree trimming and the removal of small trees as part of caring for the whole property. If we are already mowing, mulching and cleaning up your leaves, the limb hanging over your roof is something we can take care of on the same visit rather than something you have to call a separate contractor about.

What We Do

  • Trimming and pruning — shaping, thinning and removing dead or crossing limbs
  • Clearance work — getting branches off roofs, gutters, siding and driveways
  • Canopy raising — lifting the lower limbs so you can mow underneath and light reaches the lawn
  • Storm cleanup — hung limbs and downed branches after weather
  • Small tree removal — taking out small trees and volunteer saplings entirely

Where We Stop

We are honest about the limit: this is trimming and small removals, not large takedowns. A mature oak over your house, anything needing a crane or a climber on rope, or a tree close enough to power lines to involve the utility is a job for a dedicated tree service with that equipment and that insurance.

If you send us a photo and it turns out to be past what we do, we will say so rather than take the job and figure it out on the day. That is the kind of work where the wrong call gets expensive or somebody gets hurt.

Why Limbs Over the Roof Matter

Branches touching a roof wear shingles down every time the wind moves them, and they drop debris straight into the gutters you just had cleared. Limbs over a driveway shed sap and seed onto whatever is parked underneath. Most of this is a short job if it is handled before a storm makes the decision for you.

Raising a canopy also does more for a struggling lawn than most people expect. Grass thinning out under a tree is usually short on light, not short on fertilizer, and lifting the lower limbs is what fixes it.

When to Trim

Late winter, while the tree is dormant and the structure is visible without leaves, is the best window for most hardwoods in this area. Dead, damaged or hazardous limbs come off whenever you find them — that is not worth waiting on. We will tell you if what you are asking for is better done in a different season.

Common Questions About Tree Trimming & Small Tree Removal

How big a tree will you remove?

Small trees and saplings. We do not do large takedowns — anything that needs a crane, a climber on rope, or coordination with the utility over power lines belongs with a dedicated tree service. Send a photo and we will tell you straight which side of that line it falls on.

When is the best time to trim?

Late winter, while the tree is dormant and you can see its structure without leaves, suits most hardwoods here. Dead or hazardous limbs are the exception — those come off as soon as you spot them.

Will trimming help my grass grow under the tree?

Often, yes. Thin grass under a canopy is usually short on light rather than nutrients, and raising the lower limbs lets light through. It pairs well with aeration and overseeding in the same area.

Do you handle storm damage?

Yes, within the same limits — hung limbs and downed branches we can reach safely. A tree on the house or across power lines is an emergency call to a full tree service and the utility, not to us.
