Pressure Washing
Driveways, patios and decks back to the color they started.
Concrete and pavers do not usually look old because they are old. They look old because years of algae, mold and dirt have built up on them. Greenscapes VA pressure washes outdoor surfaces across the Roanoke Valley, and the difference on a driveway that has not been cleaned in a decade is hard to believe until you see the line where we stopped.
What We Clean
- Concrete driveways and sidewalks
- Paver patios and walkways
- Wooden and composite decks
- Retaining walls and stone features
- Fences
- Commercial parking areas and exterior surfaces
Pressure Is Not the Point
The damage we get called to look at is almost always from too much pressure, not too little. Concrete takes a lot. Wood decking does not — turn a narrow tip on softwood and you will carve the grain out and leave stripes no amount of later cleaning removes. Aging pavers are similar: too much pressure blasts the joint sand out and you have a patio that needs re-sanding on top of the clean.
We match pressure and cleaning agent to the surface. On organic growth the cleaner does most of the work and the washer rinses it — slower than blasting, and the reason the result lasts and the surface survives.
Why Things Green Up Here
Shaded, damp surfaces grow algae, and the Roanoke Valley has plenty of both. A north-facing walk under trees will green up every year no matter how well it was cleaned. It is also genuinely slick when wet, which makes a shaded walkway or deck the one worth doing first.
Pairs Well With Other Work
If we are already on site for seasonal cleanup or mulch, pressure washing the walks and patio on the same visit makes sense — the hard surfaces are what people notice, and cleaning them before fresh mulch goes down means you are not washing grime across the new beds.

Common Questions About Pressure Washing
Will pressure washing damage my deck?
It can, if done at concrete pressure. Softwood decking carves easily and the stripes are permanent. We drop the pressure and let the cleaning agent do the work on wood, which is slower but leaves the boards intact.
Why does my patio keep turning green?
Shade and moisture. A north-facing or tree-covered surface grows algae every year regardless of how well it was cleaned last time. It is also slippery when wet, which is why shaded walks are usually the first thing worth cleaning.
Will it blast the sand out of my pavers?
At the wrong pressure, yes, and then the patio needs re-sanding. We clean pavers at a pressure that lifts the growth without stripping the joints.
How often should surfaces be cleaned?
Most driveways and patios here look right on a two to three year cycle. Shaded surfaces that green up fast may want it annually, usually in spring once the wet season is behind you.
